Tuesday

Good morning and welcome to Tuesday.  It's dull right now but today is forecast to be a lovely, sunny day, albeit a bit chilly - which I noticed when I went out to the freezer to get today's food inside!

I got down to the allotment yesterday and stayed over an hour, weeding and forking, neatening some edges and talking to the emerging plants.  As you can see from the photos below, the beans are looking happy and the potatoes need covering.  Neither are particularly advanced but that doesn't matter in the slightest.  They are what and when they are and will feed us in their own time.

It was sunny and warm and stayed like that until after lunch when the clouds came over and it was quite dull (and cool) for a while.  Still, I got the washing dried and finished all the ironing in the evening so no complaints.
I'll need to take the strimmer and mower down soon and the potatoes need to be covered.

I had a lovely chat with Beth in the afternoon when we talked mostly about allotment stuff.  She's longing to come down and see but doesn't feel 'right' about doing so yet.  It'll be interesting to hear how they are going to start lifting certain restrictions and who will be affected.

I think I've pretty much finished the crocheting for now.  I finished the banana yesterday, made a pear and started a carrot.  After that, I will move on to some counted cross stitch.  Looking through my stash yesterday to see if I had a certain pattern for someone, three of my kits jumped up and told me to make them up.  One, in fact, is already half way through and the other two are, I think, freebies from old magazines.  I'll look for something else that I can get on once the light goes as I find nowadays, I need good natural light for counted cross stitch.

(apologies for the bad light)

Today is a sociable day.  It's the Slimming World online meeting at ten (a pound off this week - yay) and then I have the weekly video chat with Chris over the road.  I think she wants to talk tomatoes!

I'll then slot in my allotment visit (potatoes and runner bean canes!) before coming back to do some home gardening (maybe) and chill with the cross stitch.  I do the 'chores' first thing so they won't get in the way.

Just an ordinary day now that the different has become normal.  Stay safe and well, everyone.  xx

  1. Thank you again for finding the picture of the owl scissor case. Between you and Joy I am sorted!
Did you say what you were going to do with the fruit and veg? They could make a mobile for a baby

    1. They could, but in fact the rabbit is being renamed Speed Bunny with all his speed vegetables and fruit (a Slimming World term) and I'm hoping he and they can go into a big basket of things that Jennifer is awarding to the person in all her five groups who loses the most during lockdown.
I like the idea of a mobile though, very much.
I know some people are selling made up ones on places like Pinterest as things for a child's shop. They have no hard or swallowable bits so are ideal, once the child is past the biting everything stage.

    1. YAY - well done! I was hoping for a new stone number but it wasn't to be this week. Maybe next week, eh?
Are you going to Zoom meetings?

    2. Yes - it was my 4th one last night and it's fun! We talked about what recipes we might try out of the free magazine we all got. Did you recieve a copy? Apparently the butternut squash lasagne is a winner and the chicken leek and mushroom bake that I am going to make needs plenty of seasoning!

    3. Yes, I've made some of them. The roasted cauliflower cheese is scrummy with a few changes to the sauce, the chicken and mushroom fricassee is lovely, as are the giant cheeseburger and chips and the chicken leek and mushroom bake (yes, stronger seasoning needed). I did not like the tuna and new potato salad though.

  3. Congratulations on the weight loss.

I'll be interested to hear how they plan to relax the lockdown but from hints that they are giving, I don't think things will change much for me in the high risk group yet.

This pottery offer appeared in my inbox and I thought of you and Beth. Don't know if you will be interested or not.

And before I forget, this week's ALW is By Jeeves.

    1. I don't think it will change much either. Rightly, they are being extremely careful. Thanks for the info - I will follow up on both later. I'm just off out to the lotty now.

  4. I really admire your ability to crochet such cute things. That banana is amazing! I continue to do things around the house, word finds, reading and a few small craft projects. The days pass quickly as we continue to shelter in place. So far so good with health! May we all stay healthy.

    1. That banana really drove me - er - bananas trying to work out how it went but the results were worth it, I think.
SO glad you are staying well and safe.

  5. Ooh potatoes! I’ve never grown potatoes. Every time I tried growing beans, aphids destroyed the vines.

    Congratulations on your weight loss!

    1. Thanks, Nil - little and regular wins the day!
I'm afraid at the first sign of blackfly (which broad beans are very susceptible to), I get out the spray and attack! No nasty aphid is having my beans!!!
