Sunday

Good morning.  No sleeping in this morning despite a bit of a sleepless night.  I can't - Dad wants to go to church this morning (he hasn't been able to go for several weeks) so I must be up and awake!

Yesterday wasn't the best although I did spoil myself in Bob the Butcher's (Chapmans, for anyone who knows Baldock) with not only some chicken, which was why I went) but also some pork fillet (which cut into three pieces for freezing) and a pork mini roast which should do me for a couple of meals at some point.

Apart from that I got the ironing done while watching some repeats of Eat Well for Less on the food channel and the steak dinner was quite tasty!

It's supposed to be a fair bit warmer today which should be nice.  It was so cold yesterday that much of the snow stayed around all day.  It will be nice to feel a bit warmer.

Have a great day, everyone.  xx

  1. Morning Joy. I don't think of it as sleeping in, I regard it as catching up on sleep that our body is telling us it needs. Sorry you had a bad night, I hope you can catch up on sleep when you get home, if not tonight. It's nice to be able to get good meat from a butcher you can trust, isn't it. Hope your day is better today.

    1. I guess when you're supposed to be up and doing, it is sleeping in! I like your alternative though. I'm now fighting to stay awake but really can't doze off. Bath time, I think. A shame this is a caffeine free household!

  2. I worked my way through some ironing yesterday morning but I expect I'll have another pile waiting for me by this evening.
I also enjoy watching 'Eat Well for Less,' there are some good recipe ideas, but I find Greg Wallace more than a little irritating.
Enjoy your day and I hope you sleep better tonight. X

  3. I hope that you will be able to make decisions that everyone will feel are the right ones.
Making assumptions that they relate to family I feel for you.
On a practical note can you have a secret cache of caffeinated coffee?

    1. Thanks, Sue. Things are better this morning which is nice.
A secret cache sounds a very good idea, eapecially for situation like this. I have both at home, decaf for default and caf when needed. :-)

  4. A shame you had to get up early, I had a lovely lie in with a croissant and apricot jam, ha ha! Husband made porridge for himself. Then we had a look-see in the new Lidl but don't think we will be going again if we can help it, it's very large, like an aircraft hangar. We only wanted coffee and apricot jam! But sound tulips at a good price so bought those, too. Refused their loyalty card or offer card or whatever it was ... something about spend £30 and get a free bottle of olive oil. Do they think we're stupid? I don't even use olive oil, I use English cold pressed rapeseed oil, much healthier especially if you cook with it. Expensive, yes, but I always try and buy it when it's on offer. And what price do you put on what we put in our mouths?
At least it's less cold now, Joy. At least, it is where we are. Didn't have one flake of snow. I would've like some!

    1. I quite like Lidl but I think I prefer Aldi, especially as we now have a lovely new one in town. All shops have their plusses and minuses, don't they?
I believe vegetable oil is actually rapeseed oil and that's what I get usually. Don't like to waste my hard earned cash on things that I ought to be having minimal amounts of anyway and I can't remember the last time I bought oil. Actually, must check the date on the bottle! :-)

    2. I have always quite liked the Torquay Lidl but not this new huge hangar of a building, Joy. It's just too large. I use oil to cook with all the time, but I didn't think vegetable oil was rapeseed oil, perhaps more palm oil, but as I don't buy 'vetable' oil, I've not looked. I've used rapeseed oil for a few years now, it's supposed to be better for us, especially if cooking with it, than olive oil. I use Bertolli for cooking and Normandy butter on toast. Hope after Brexit we will still be able to get Normandy butter which is pale and creamy, not like bright yellow greasy English butter.
