We had the best time at Aqua Springs yesterday - in an understated way. We didn't have any packages or treatments although there's plenty on offer, we just went for the joy of relaxing in warm bubbles, steam rooms, saunas, etc. Beth had had a stressful couple of weeks - nothing bad, just things ramping up temporarily - and she very much needed some chilled time.
We chatted, soaked, relaxed, had a nice lunch of cheesy jacket potato and salad, coffee before we left and it was just lovely!

I got a bit of a shock when I drew my curtains back this morning.
Yesterday morning the view was of solid leaves from side to side, meeting in the middle and cutting down significantly on my neighbours' light and a bit on mine too (but not that bad).
As they are on council land, they're not GT and T's responsibility but they were not only greatly impacting on light but also there were branches dangerously close to the corner of their house.
Obviously, yesterday, it was their turn for the chop! I didn't notice yesterday because I didn't look out when I got home.
Poor trees - what a massacre! However, they will recover in a few years. It's happened before and five years later you would never have known. In the meanwhile, we will enjoy the extra light and an enhanced country view.
And there won't be any leaves to sweep up this autumn!

There's absolutely nothing in the diary over this week. I have the usual stuff - bread to make, washing, drying and ironing, meal planning, etc, but I've started off with a cafetiere of good coffee rather than just a mug and I'm going to chill.
Later on, I will work on the last bit of the Spain recount but that will be fun to remember. It'll probably go up tomorrow.

Hoping you have a lovely weekend too. xx

It will make a nice change not having to sweep up all those leaves.
ReplyDeleteA spa day must have been so relaxing for you both, and I hope Beth felt so much better for it. Only yesterday, I mentioned to my friend that we really should book one soon.
Have a lovely weekend, Joy. Xx
It will, Jules. They are usually the Autumnal bane of my life!
DeleteAnd you have a great weekend too. xx
The trees appear to have been quite sympathetically pruned and the framework is still there and a nice shape. At least this time of year you don't need the shade to cool down, hopefully.
DeleteEnjoy your diary free week! xx
PS: I loved reading about your Spanish adventure. We've holidayed twice south of there in Mojacar Playa, one of my bosses had a holiday villa there and he let us rent it for free! For drinking water we filled our bottles in the communal fountain in Mojacar town. We spent our 25th anniversary at the beautiful Alhambra in Seville and stayed the night at the Irvine Wallace hotel next door. It had a massive dining room and we were the only ones there apart from a Spanish family.
It was a fantastic car journey from coastal, through the rugged mountains where they filmed Spaghetti Westerns, over fertile plains and onto snow covered mountains.
Yes, I think they have been done well and in a couple of years they will be lovely. They had to be done in any case; they were getting too big and I know my neighbours had been in touch with the council about them.
DeleteYour Spanish experiences sound fantastic. It's such an interesting and varied country. I'm glad I'm going back. xx
What a bonus not to have the leaves -we are sweeping up daily! Glad you had a relaxing time with Beth yesterday-a perfect end to the week.Catriona
ReplyDeleteIt really is. There will be a few leaves but nothing like the usual piles - and fewer sycamore seedlings pushing up through the edges of the slabs too. At the moment, it's the different light that is really impacting. As the sun gets lower, it's a bonus. xx
DeleteAlways a bit of a shock when seeing something you didn’t expect, like trees or hedges getting a drastic haircut! Our hedges are having their annual cut at the moment, amazing how much more light it lets into the garden. I notice your tomatoes still look good 😊
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
That's exactly it - a shock. They needed doing so that's good.
DeleteYes, the tomatoes are still going strong. I'm struggling to keep up and my freezer is getting a bit full. I need to do some sorting and tidying again! xx
At least you have the fence for privacy. My neighbour is chopping down all the trees in their back garden (that backs up to their driveway) and everything looks so bare now. I am rather sad.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is sad. I know 'mine' will leaf up again. I'd be super sad if they were completely chopped down. xx
