Saturday

Good morning.
Why are colds such disgusting things?  They're probably one of the most anti-social things around - all that coughing and sneezing and spluttering.   And as for waking up each morning - urgh.
I will be having another indoors day, whinging and whining to myself, but at least I won't be sharing anything unsavoury with friends and neighbours!  I expect a day in my favourite chair beside the radiator, Christmas films on DVDs, book on one side and cold drink on t'other with knitting on my lap will be the schedule.

The Christmassy thing for today will be to make a few sausage rolls and a few pigs in blankets.  Gone are the days when I had to make a huge trayful of these popular little sides; this Christmas we will be four, one of whom is vegetarian so a dozen will be more than enough - that's a dozen little ones made with half a chipolata each.  The remaining six chipolatas in the pack will be made into sausage rolls.  Again, not many and I will take the skins off the sausage meat and pep it up a bit before wrapping in pastry and freezing uncooked.

If I can muster the energy, I will go down to the garage and carry in the Christmas boxes that contain all the decorations, cards, wrapping paper, etc.  I seem to remember I gave them a good tidy up at the beginning of the new year but, if I didn't, they will need it so maybe that's something I can do sitting down, bin bag to the side!

And it really is time the nativity set was out.  If I didn't have a lovely wooden set, I'd have knitted one but as I do, I haven't.  I expect the one I made for Mum will come back to me in the fullness of time, hopefully many years in the future.

The Christmas music, to cheer me up, is my most favourite part of a favourite classic.  'For unto us a child is born' from Handel's oratorio, 'Messiah'.  I remember singing this with great gusto in the big top at Spring Harvest many, many years ago, as part of a large, bring-your-own-music, ad hoc choir.  It was great fun, albeit not so great on technique!
Sung by Kings, of course.  Who else?

    1. Well, better now than over Christmas. When I was teaching it was usual to go down with something a few days into the holiday, not just me but my colleagues as well.
      Thanks

  4. I am so enjoying your daily music videos and your updates on Christmas!! I may not comment each day but I want you to know how enjoyable your posts are. I am sorry about your cold, though. With me, colds tend to hang on much longer than with other folks which is very irritating! I don't have a cold at present, but am suffering with a painful and swollen knee. It appears that arthritis has settled into a "new" body part and this is quite aggravating as today is our "Dickens in the Village" day when my husband walks around with his group playing Christmas songs in Biltmore Village and all of the shops are displaying their Christmas finest. I'm going to go but will have to "move gently" with this silly knee! Have a restful and happy day, Joy!

    1. That sounds very painful. What a nuisance; I'm really sorry to read this.
I hope the Dickens day was good and you weren't too uncomfortable.

  6. Sorry about your cold but a great day planned, hope you're feeling better already. I've sung this in a choir and many other songs at Spring Harvest.. thank you for your comment on my blog, I do enjoy catch up Christmas letters just not the ones saying, 'How great am I' One friend who wrote all through the year as well as Christmas time, lost her fight with cancer in September, I miss her and her letters dreadfully. We first met in 1960 as student nurses.
